BRUNKILD CENTENNIAL HELD JULY 2003
BRUNKILD CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL IN STYLE!

From the Wine and Cheese reception Friday night, the fun activities, fireworks and musical entertainment on Saturday, and the well attended church service and brunch on Sunday, Brunkild celebrated its 100th birthday in style.

Just over six hundred registered guests took in the three day event. The total number of people who visited our town over the three day event is estimated at 700-800 people, however, as visitors from neighbouring towns stopped by to take in the pancake breakfast and parade, garage/craft/bake sale and fabulous fireworks. A number of delegates to the World Lutheran Federation meeting in Winnipeg, including well known to many Brunkild residents, Dr. Noko, General Secretary of World Lutheran Federation, were special guests at the Sunday service and brunch.

On Friday evening guests enjoyed wine, cheese and tastily, artfully, locally prepared snacks. Locals and those from far away had a chance to pick out who was who in old photos and relive Brunkild's past. T-shirts, mugs, recipe book/almanacs and history books were available throughout the weekend.

After a hearty pancake breakfast, sponsored by Rosenort Credit Union, everyone picked out a spot along the parade route.

There were 65 entries in the parade which was lead by the RCMP, including our very own Arnold Kliewer Jr. resplendent in his red serge. Reeve Rodney Burns, riding in the back of Sanford area farmer Garvin Kabernick's T-bird represented the RM of Macdonald and our MLA Mavis Tailleau represented the Province. Families and businesses were creative in their entries with everything from the Crocus Swine entry featuring three real little pigs and a big bad wolf (identity unknown?), some familiar looking hillbillies from the Lea Bank area, a number of floats representing our Brunkild families and old and new farm equipment, including spraying outfits from the past and present complete with signs advertising current per acre prices.

The dedication of the Brunkild Consolidated School monument at the old school grounds with a presentation by Elsie Steinke, was followed by an official Centennial flag raising at the Recreation Centre. MLA Mavis Tailleau presented Brunkild with a special commemorative placque.

Registered guests enjoyed a complimentary hot dog or pork on a bun sponsored by Landmark Feeds, Crocus Swine, Domain Porkplex, and Winland Pork.

The afternoon's activities included pick up baseball, a crib tournament, and fun activities for the kids, including, a bubble pool, jumping castle, face painting, street painting, Mr. Biggles, a town-wide scavenger hunt and horseback rides. A comfortable shuttle bus was available to take guests to and from the various event locations, on a cemetery tour and to farmyards outside the town.

The delicious evening banquet was followed by speeches and entertainment in the Hall provided by band members representing the musical history of Brunkild including former members of the Polka Partners, the Nomads, and the Echos. Local musician Ron Karlowksy, most recently with Northern Lights and the BBG Band, put together an excellent array of musicians to provide entertainment in the beer gardens leading up to and following a magnificent fireworks display arranged by Robin Karlowsky and sponsored by Bestland Agro (see comments on guest book page).

Entertainment by Southern Comfort Revised rounded out the evening activities.

Appreciation and congratulations are extended to the many volunteers and sponsors who helped make the event a success.

I would personally like to thank the committee and all the volunteers for their hard
work and dedication, especially Audrey Hanna, whose dedication and organizational skills has helped greatly to make this a successful celebration.

Respectfully Yours,
Len Poersch, Chairman of Brunkild Centennial Committee

Brunkild Centennial Celebration would not be a success without the dedication of our community and our sponsors. THANK YOU!!!
